Affordable Wedding Venue Ideas

Sure you'd love to get married in Bora Bora. But, it may require more cash than you're willing to spend (a boat load, in fact). But, all is not lost. You can have a fabulous wedding on the cheap, and it starts with the venue you choose.

Take stock of all of the friends and family members that will be in attendance. Could any of their backyard spaces be a suitable venue for your wedding? Okay, maybe a backyard wedding isn't the wedding of your dreams, but a backyard wedding is one of the most cost effective venues you could consider; in fact, it could end up saving you thousands of dollars. For a backyard wedding it is advisable to plan your wedding during the dry season. You may want to rent a tent just in case the weather turns ugly. You could either have the wedding catered, or, if you want to save even more, have a potluck or enlist some friends or family members to help barbecue.

Not keen on a backyard wedding? Maybe there's a body of water nearby, such as the ocean, lake, pond or river. Weddings near bodies of water are very popular. Your guests will love the view, and you'll love the fabulous wedding photos with the water as your backdrop. The money you'll save is also fabulous. Often times public beaches or other bodies of water are either free to use, or are available for a small fee. Just be sure to obtain a permit if required to do so.

Public parks are also great places to exchange vows. Many parks have garden areas suitable for weddings, as well as picnic areas for your reception afterwards. Many of these areas will require a permit, and may come with a small rental fee, but the cost is way below renting a banquet room in a hotel.

One caveat to having your wedding in a public park or beach is privacy. Since the venue is public you have little control over who is allowed nearby. Most people, however, are pretty respectful of private events and parties such as weddings, and tend to keep their distance.

Finally, another way to save money on your wedding venue is to simply elope. You have no big wedding to plan, and no wedding guests to feed and entertain with a reception. For some ideas on where to elope  go to our sister site at: www.elopement-packages.com.

I thought this was a fantastic post in that it is so important to choose a venue which is easily accessible to your guests. Plus, by selecting a venue such as someone’s backyard or a local waterfront area, the money you will save is astonishing as you noted. That being said, some of these “savings” could then be applied toward hiring a GOOD band rather than a “DJ wannabe” with an iPod. I also agree with your statement that the use of a public park or beach results in concerns about privacy. However, with all of the money one saves, a couple of large, well built men could be “retained” to be positioned near the perimeter of the venue. While it is true that they could not prevent anyone from entering the area (as it is public) I’m pretty sure that their “presence” along with a kind demeanor would persuade most folks to provide the desired level of privacy! Thanks!

These are fantastic ideas! Especially if you want to stay local and invite many guests. I think natural surroundings such as the beach or a park, as you suggested, add to the elegance of the day. Another way to make a destination wedding affordable is to find an all-inclusive resort package that will take care of the details for you. Many places have packages that include pretty much everything you'll need and you'll be assigned a personal coordinator. Depending on the size of your wedding, finding a destination wedding package may actually save you money!
