Save Money on Your Wedding Cake

Pssst...wanna buy a cheap wedding cake?  Well, who wouldn't. Wedding cakes can be several hundred dollars.  But, did you know you can save a good 15% by purchasing your wedding cake from a grocery store?

What are some other ways to save money on your wedding cake?

  • Have a small cake to cut in front of guests, while pre-sliced sheet cakes (or cute bakers’ cupcakes) wait in the back to be served.
  • Use fresh flowers or fruit garnishes and your own supplies as cake decorations to avoid handicraft fees from the cake designer.
  • Skip a separate dessert - your wedding cake is enough.
  • Serve half slices and enhance the plates with fresh fruit or sorbet.
  • Forgo the fondant. Butter cream icing is less expensive (and tastier!).

More ridiculous advice for brides. Grocery store wedding cakes are not on the same level with a custom designed creation. The ingredients are inferior, and you don't get to choose a truly unique design. Serving sheet cakes to half of the guests, while the other half get the big slices from the wedding cake is rude. Fresh, handmade fondant is delicious, and sometimes a design MUST be done in fondant. Who the heck wants a cheap wedding cake? The wedding cake should be the star of the reception! That means investing good money, with a professional who will deliver a showstopping design! Want cheap? Then absolutely, by all means, go to Walmart.

Actually, the point of the post was for people who want a cheap cake. Some people don't have the money to spend, and can't afford to make the cake the star of their wedding. They prefer the love they have for one another to be the star of the wedding. But, if you have the money and want an expensive cake, go for it. But, if you don't have the funds necessary, there are cheaper ways to go.
