Get Married and Contribute to Obama at the Same Time

Never saw this type of wedding package before, but, for all you Obama-supporting couples out there looking to say "I do" to each other and Sen. Obama at the same time - Brooks Hill Historic Church in Portland, Oregon is offering a wedding package where you can opt to donate 100% of your chapel rental directly to Barack Obama's presidential campaign for your wedding during the month of October.

Built in 1931 and situated on a hill overlooking the beautiful west valley of Portland, Brooks Hill Historic Church is an intimate, historic chapel popular for weddings. Used for more than 70 as the Brooks Hill Free Methodist Church, the chapel was bought in 2005 by Cindy Lou Banks, who gave it a complete restoration.

Brooks Hill offers a number of wedding packages, ranging in price from $395 to $895, depending on the length of the event and number of guests.  All packages include the following:

  • Beautiful chapel with pews
  • Receiving hall
  • Private bridal lounge
  • Small kitchenette
  • Three bathrooms
  • Two private dressing rooms
  • Baby grand piano
  • High-Speed wireless internet access
  • Guest book table
  • Candelabrums
  • 8 foot table with linens
  • Altar table
  • Stereo
  • Church bell

For the special "Elope for Obama" package, you may invite up to 50 guests.  You will need to get your Oregon marriage license at least 4 business days in advance.

Of course, you don't have to donate the proceeds to the Obama campaign.  But, if you're an Obama supporter, it's a pretty cool way to donate and get married at the same time.  Now, what if one half of the couple is for Obama and the other half is for McCain?  Can you only donate half to Obama?  Don't know.  But you can probably ask them if you're interested.

For more information you can send an email to staff@brookshill.com or call 503-629-9700.  Their website is BrooksHill.com.
